RE: Parking Information and Updates

It has been a while since I've put out a parking update, and going forward I will be posting updates on our website (http://safetyweb.uoregon.edu/), rather than sending them out via email. However, there are changes and projects coming up that I wanted to make sure you know about.

There will be a sign posted at the entrance to Lot 14 (the small lot on the north side of Oregon Hall) stating the lot will be closed from March 15, 2009 through March 29, 2009, for construction. The purpose of the construction is to tie network services and telecom services into the new Academic Learning Center. During this two week period, Agate Street from Franklin Boulevard to 13th Avenue will be closed to all traffic, going both directions.

As part of our Transportation Demand Management Program, we are adding 71 designated carpool parking spaces in lots all over campus. We are trying to encourage as many people as possible to consider carpooling rather than single-occupant travel. The current rules for a carpool state there needs to be at least three people to register for a carpool permit, with at least two of the members being student, faculty or staff at the University of Oregon. There is a significant savings for the cost for the permit, and starting in the spring term, there will be prime designated carpool spaces in most of our parking lots. Check out our website after spring break for further information on location of the spaces and cost of the permits.

For information about carpooling, please go to our website for links to AlterNetRides or to Commuter Solutions. These groups try to match you up with others looking to help the environment by reducing our carbon footprint and relieving the stress on our parking inventory.

Starting on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the OSAA 5A and 6A basketball championships will begin in McArthur Court. Traffic on University Street will be very congested starting around noon on Wednesday, but begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, running until about 10:00 p.m. Meters will be hooded and there will be many visitors to campus trying to find a place to park. Please be mindful and patient.

The Museum of Art will be having an event on Friday, April 3, 2009. For this event, they have reserved Lot 16, also known as the PLC lot on Kincaid Street. There are two entrances to that Lot off of 14th Avenue. Signs will be posted early in that week letting all users of the lot know that the lot will close at 5:00 p.m. on April 3, 2009. All users of the lot need to be out of that lot by 5:00 p.m. The Museum of Art will have staff at the entrances to monitor all attempts to use the lot.
