RE: Parking Information and Updates

Welcome to Spring Term. I'm really ready for some warm weather.

In the last update on March 6, 2009, I mentioned that we were converting 71 spaces to carpool spaces. Most of those spaces have been designated with signs or stall markings, but the weather just won't let us finish the stall markings. For information about carpooling please go to our website (http://safetyweb.uoregon.edu/).

Lot 32 (this lot is located on the southeast corner of Hayward Field) will be closed starting April 13, 2009, until sometime in July. The lot will be closed to prepare for the USA Track & Field Trials to be held here in June. Temporary bleachers will be assembled in that area.

The Pepsi Team Invitational Track Meet will be held at Hayward Field Saturday, April 4, 2009. Estimated attendance will be about 5,000 so traffic and parking will be heavy.

On April 9-11, 2009, there will be about 1400 high school students on campus each day for the annual Model UN Conference. They will be arriving by bus each day and located in buildings around the campus.

Starting April 6, 2009, the University Access Shuttle will be experimenting with a free shuttle service to designated points around campus. The route starts at Barnhart Hall and continues with stops at Kincaid Street next to the Knight Library, on the closed portion of 13th Avenue fronting the Lillis Business Center, at the Heart of Campus, on 15th Avenue at the Breeze stop fronting the SRC, at the entrance to the Bowerman parking lot, at 15th Avenue and Agate, on Agate near 13th Avenue at the Breeze stop, on 13th Avenue at the cut out near the Kiosk, at the Heart of Campus near Columbia Hall, on 13th Avenue fronting Lillis, on Kincaid Street fronting McKenzie Hall. The first shuttle will leave Barnhart Hall at 7:30 a.m. and the last shuttle will leave Barnhart Hall at about 9:00 a.m. each morning, Monday through Friday. The service will start again in the afternoon with the first shuttle leaving Barnhart Hall at 3:00 p.m. and the last shuttle leaving Barnhart Hall at about 5:30 p.m. Each circuit is expected to take approximately 20 minutes.

This service is available for students, faculty and staff who would like to get to any point on the route. The priority of this vehicle is to assist those with mobility issues. However, we would like to use the vehicle to its full potential and increase ridership. We'll see how this goes.
