RE: Commuter Services Update
Reservations for State Vehicles
There is good news regarding access to state vehicles. Oregon State University will be moving into and replacing the DAS site in Glenwood. Oregon State University will make available to the University of Oregon the same type of vehicles, sedans and vans we used to get from DAS. Vehicles will be available starting September 28, 2009. Advanced reservations may be made now by calling 541-737-4141, or e-mail at motorpool@oregonstate.edu.
Move In
This is a very big week for all of us with the students returning to campus. With their return we can expect that Thursday, September 24, 2009, will be the main move in day for on campus residents. As much as possible, faculty and staff are encouraged to use alternative means of commuting to campus during this time. For this one day, we are asking that if you drive to campus please park over at the HEDCO College of Education lots, Lots 17, 18, 40, or in lot 34E and F. Commuter Services has reopened the basketball courts at Lot 34F for parking during fall term and there are an additional 61 spaces in that lot, Lot 34F.
DMV Disabled Parking
There has been some confusion regarding the marked, DMV disabled spaces on campus. These spaces are for visitors to the campus. They are not intended for use by students, faculty or staff. You will soon see signs affixed to all the sign posts on campus for DMV disabled spaces that will read, "University of Oregon Visitor Permit Required". These spaces are reserved for those with DMV disabled placards; but the DMV placard does not exempt motorists from paying for parking. If you are a student, faculty, or staff with a DMV placard and park on campus, you must have a University of Oregon student, faculty, or staff parking permit. You can apply for a reserved space at no extra cost. Please inquire at the Department of Public Safety.
As we start this new school year we are encouraging students, faculty and staff to bike to the University of Oregon. We have added many new bike racks all over campus. Please be sure to register your bike with the Department of Public Safety and use a good lock. UO Public Safety will have tables set up for bike registration around the residence halls and out front of the UO Public Safety Office. Staff will have tips on how to use and properly secure your bicycle.
