Public Service Notices
Reported Incident
Friday, February 22, 2002
The situation in the University of Oregon residence halls
was resolved peacefully without incident. At 2:19 PM,
the Department of Public Safety received a telephone report
of a man with a handgun in one of the rooms in the Hamilton
Complex, at the corner of 13th Avenue and Agate
Street. Eugene Police and Public Safety Officers
responded to cordon off the area and assist in evacuating
the affected building. At approximately 3:00 PM, an
individual was apprehended outside the residence hall, and
subsequently a realistic-looking BB gun was recovered.
Residents have been permitted to re-enter the building and
are encouraged to contact their family members and advise
that they are safe.
New Emergency Phone Locations
Tuesday, January 8th, 2002
Two campus emergency phones were installed over the
winter break. One phone is located next to the bark-dust
path just east of the PARS Indoor Tennis Court facility; the
other is behind Mac Court at the north end of the PARS
Indoor Tennis Court Facility. The new phones compliment the
existing inventory of emergency
call-boxes.
In Spring 2001, representatives from PARS, Student Life,
ASUO, and Housing recommended the addition of the emergency
phones. Telecommunications Services managed the installation
of the call-boxes, using the assistance of Facilities
Services and Engineer Cliff Dax with the Technical Sciences
Administration. Mr. Dax designed and fabricated the
innovative blue light on all campus emergency phones. DPS
funded the project cost of approximately $2,505.
As you travel about the campus, take a moment to
familiarize yourself with emergency phone locations. At
night, the
distinctive blue light on each phone is easily visible from
a distance.

its plans to improve the professionalism of public safety
operations by commissioning all officers.

Cameron, Corporal Robert Guse, and Officers Rick Bean and
