Threat by Telephone

  1. Do not hang up.  Remain calm
  2. Take the caller seriously.  Assume the threat is real
  3. If you have a digital phone, look for originating number
  4. Ask questions using the checklist below as a guide
  5. Do no use cell phone, two-way radio, or any wireless communication device, as it can trigger the bomb
  6. Have a coworker call 6-6666 on another line, or call 6-6666 yourself immediately after hanging up
  7. Inform your supervisor if you need time away due to the stress caused by the threat

Bomb Threat Checklist

  • When is the bomb going to explode?
  • Where is it right now?
  • What does it look like?
  • What kind of bomb is it?
  • What will cause it to explode?
  • Did you place the bomb?  Why?
  • What is your name?
  • What is your address?
  • Exact wording of threat:
  • Name of caller (if known)
  • Number from which call originated
  • Male or female
  • Race
  • Age
  • Name of recipient of call
  • Number at which call was received
  • Time
  • Date
  • Additional comments
